The opening of the new route means that the international shipping network of Ningbo Zhoushan Port has once again been greatly expanded. On the afternoon of August 6th, an international sailing vessel named "Mediterranean Shay" set sail from the North Sanji Si Pier in Chuanshan Port Area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port. The head of the terminal operation department introduced that the new route will significantly shorten the transportation time of goods between Ningbo Zhoushan Port and the southeastern Indian market, creating new opportunities for importers and exporters in both places.
The full name of the new route is OSPREY route, which is the second route opened by Mediterranean Shipping Company from Ningbo Zhoushan Port to India. It is understood that the OSPREY route originates from Shanghai and passes through ports in Ningbo, Singapore, Colombo, and other places.
It is reported that the route plans to deploy 6 international vessels (each with a capacity of approximately 2000 TEUs) and operate on a weekly basis. The opening of OSPREY route will further supplement the route coverage of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, strengthen the logistics network from Ningbo Zhoushan Port to India, achieve wider and deeper radiation coverage, and meet the growing demand for Sino Indian trade.
According to the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration, in the first half of this year, Ningbo Zhoushan Port completed a cargo throughput of 708 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.2%; Completed a container throughput of 19.165 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 8.4%, the highest in the same period of history.
This year, shipping companies have opened four routes, including the "Mediterranean Mexico Line", "Mediterranean Europe 2 Line", "Mediterranean America West Line", and "Mediterranean China Hainan America East Line 2". In addition, the "Mediterranean Bangladesh Line" has also resumed operations.
The opening of multiple new shipping routes has brought about a weekly container throughput of approximately 2000 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units) for the international trade development of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, highlighting the outstanding domestic and international competitiveness of the "world's largest port".
As the "vanguard" in serving the development of port economy, the maritime department of Ningbo has taken multiple measures to cope with severe weather conditions such as high temperatures, typhoons, and strong convection, taking into account the seasonal climate characteristics, effectively maintaining the stability of water navigation safety, improving the efficiency of large ship import and export turnover, and assisting in the construction of a "strong transportation country".
We will strictly follow the safety management mode of the entire chain of large ships, increase the implementation of electronic cruise and on-site supervision, to comprehensively ensure the safety and smoothness of port production operations. "Chen Liqin, a law enforcement officer from the Far East Sea Patrol Law Enforcement Brigade of Ningbo Chuanshan Maritime Safety Administration, said that they will rely on the opening of the new route to further enhance their service guarantee capabilities and promote the port to achieve higher levels and higher quality development.
