On May 8th, the work report meeting on the expansion and renovation project of the Wuxi (Jiangyin) Port's foreign trade import iron ore terminal for the special pilot project of strengthening transportation was held in Jiangyin City.
The expansion and renovation project of Wuxi (Jiangyin) Port's foreign trade import iron ore terminal is one of the first batch of national 14 port function optimization and improvement special pilot projects announced by the Ministry of Transport. It is a major project in Wuxi City in 2024, with a total investment of about 2 billion yuan, of which the first phase investment is nearly 1.4 billion yuan, and the planned completion time is 2025. This project focuses on three major tasks: upgrading and professionalizing the port level, upgrading the port to a green and low-carbon environment, and empowering port equipment with intelligence. It strives to achieve four major goals: intensive and efficient utilization of deep-water shoreline resources in the Yangtze River, automated monitoring and pollution prevention of green port environments, optimization of regional transportation structure to reduce logistics costs, and promotion of replacement of old equipment. It further enhances the resilience of the national foreign trade import iron ore supply chain and forms a replicable and promotable experience model in the Yangtze River Basin.
The annual cargo throughput of Wuxi (Jiangyin) Port exceeds 370 million tons, ranking third among domestic river ports in China. Among them, the amount of iron ore imported through this port terminal exceeds 50 million tons per year, ranking first among ports along the Yangtze River.
At present, the pilot tasks are proceeding smoothly and orderly. In terms of specialized upgrading and renovation of the dock, 50% of the renovation task of Terminal 5 has been completed; The installation of the hydraulic structure and equipment at Terminal 6 has been basically completed, and equipment automation transformation is being implemented. It is expected to be completed and accepted by the end of September. In terms of green and low-carbon transformation of ports, the construction of port green landscapes and the application of energy-saving technologies have been basically completed. Three sets of 2000KVA high-voltage ship shore power systems have been put into use, and the water quality detection system for sewage reuse in the smart energy and resource service cloud platform and the sewage treatment facilities at Terminal 5 are under construction. In terms of port intelligent transformation, the construction of 5G base stations, fiber optic laying and other network infrastructure is being carried out, and the business data specification standards of the data center group are being formulated.
After the implementation of this project, it will further improve the layout of foreign trade import iron ore ports in the Yangtze River Delta region, enhance the level of specialization and the ability of large ship loading and unloading support, and reduce logistics costs; It is of great significance to promote the conservation and intensive utilization of port shoreline resources, and to achieve a shift in infrastructure construction from relying mainly on traditional factors to emphasizing innovation.
