Recently, EUROGATE and TiL, the terminal investment platform of Mediterranean Shipping, have decided to extend the MSC Gate Bremerhaven joint venture agreement signed in May 2004 until 2048, which means that TiL will continue to cooperate with EUROGATE to operate the terminal and provide services for Mediterranean Shipping. According to the port circle (ID: gangkouquan), the MSC Gate Bremerhaven terminal is 50% owned by EUROGATE and TiL respectively, with a throughput capacity of approximately 2.3 million TEUs.
Michael Blach, Chairman of the EUROGATE Group Management Committee, said at the signing ceremony: The renewal of the contract has laid the foundation for successful cooperation to date. This is good news for the port of Bremen. Over the past 20 years, we have achieved many accomplishments together. MSC Gate has become a reliable port partner in the network of our client Mediterranean Shipping Company. A few weeks ago, the MSC Michel Cappellini, one of the latest and largest vessels in the Mediterranean Shipping container fleet, was located at Bremen port The naming ceremony proves the importance of the pier and Bremen Port for Mediterranean shipping. We hope to continue our cooperation and common development. Currently, we are considering modernizing the MSC Gate. To this end, it is necessary to quickly promote the renovation of the dock and the Waiser River in order to gain an advantage in future competition.
TiL CEO Ammar Kanaan said, "Extending the contract to the next 25 years has deepened our partnership with Bremen Port. MSC Gate is an important component of the Mediterranean shipping development strategy. In the future, we will build on the partnership established by both parties since 2004. We look forward to strengthening the port's growth potential by investing in port infrastructure
Florian Brandt, General Manager of MSC Gate, said: The new cooperation is a strong signal that inspires us to work together with TiL and Mediterranean Shipping to address future challenges and drive the development of Bremen Port. To this end, we have invested in new container gantry cranes, and recently invested in 35 hybrid crossover vehicles. We are currently working together to study further digitization and gradually achieve automation of loading and unloading operations, in order to better meet customer requirements in the future
It is worth mentioning that in September, Mediterranean Shipping planned to acquire a 49.9% stake in Hamburg Port and Logistics AG (HHLA), agreeing to transport an additional 1 million TEU of goods annually through HHLA's terminals at Hamburg Port, and to relocate its main office of liner shipping in Germany from Bremen to Hamburg, as well as the cruise center from Munich to Hamburg. The renewal of the Mediterranean shipping contract at the port of Bremen will further consolidate its layout at German ports.
